The National Music Foundation is a not-for-profit
organization. Our mission is to encourage and support the teaching
of music, and in particular American music, in schools throughout
the country. The American Music Education Initiative is our primary
program.
Music is disappearing from our classrooms, usually because of
budget cuts and the misguided belief that the arts are not essential.
And yet research has shown that more than 90% of Americans believe
that music is part of a good education, and that schools should
offer instrumental music as part of the regular curriculum.
Through the AMEI we encourage, recognize and help support teachers
who are using American music in their classrooms. Each year we
give cash awards to the AMEI’s Finalist and Semi-finalist
teachers. We also maintain an on-line collection of lesson prize-winning
lesson plans, available at no charge to everyone. These lesson
plans have been developed by teachers, proven in the classroom
and judged by professional educators.
We welcome your contributions to the National
Music Foundation. If you would like to become an active supporter
